Abstract

The main challenge of agricultural extension in the 21st century is how to develop sustainable counseling approaches that put farmers at the center as agents of change in their communities. Farmer-to-farmer extension is one theses approaches that has grown in Africa in the past decade. The study evaluated the effectiveness of the use of Relay Animators in the implementation of the management advice for family farms in Benin by the Productive Dynamics Support Program. Data were collected from a random sample of 226 producers. Our results showed that the members experienced a significant improvement in cash management (87%), workforce management (70%), stock production management (89%), planning capacities (85%) and in the definition of a development project for their farm (95%). Also, the results showed a reduction in the technical constraints of the main crops (69%), followed by an increase in yields (76%). Lastly, an increase in income (91%) and an improvement in food security (73%) were also noted. The socioeconomic profile or Relays Animators and group effect associated with the implementation of the management advice for family farms explain the results obtained.
